Statements of student learning outcomes describe what students should be able to demonstrate, represent or produce after a learning experience. Learning outcomes build a foundation for the learning experience, define expectations for students, and keep the instructor focused on what is important. Learning outcomes are key elements of sound course design based on aligning student learning outcomes, instructional activities, and assessment of student learning. This session will focus on the components of effective student learning outcomes, constructing measurable student learning outcomes, and develop learning outcomes target at different cognitive levels. Participants are encouraged to bring course syllabus or a course assignment to use when practicing writing learning outcomes.
