          About This Event

          Summary

Eleanor Prest Reese and Robert B. Berkshire Galleries

          January 21–February 24, 2011 ARTIST TALK: January 19, 5:30 p.m.

          OPENING RECEPTION: January 21, 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Turning “cute” images to abject and sometimes subversive purposes, Curious and Curiouser compels the viewer to question why this type of imagery has emerged so predominantly at the beginning of the 21st century. The poignant and often humorous multi-artist exhibition showcases work that contains elements such as dolls, stuffed animals, homey genre scenes, cartoon characters and drawing-book type illustrations. Artists include Casey Millard, who has developed the character “Shark Girl.” Depicted in drawings, ceramics and life-size installations, Shark Girl (with the body of a girl and the heard of shark) often laments her lot in life to the point where she is frozen into inactivity.
