For this interactive presentation, Dr. Michael Stefanek will provide tips and recommendations for those engaged in the process of writing and submitting grants to the National Institutes of Health. This will include a look at the review process, including a "review panel" made up of several IU faculty who have NIH study section experience.. Finally, the discussion will include some basic information about NIH funding mechanisms and resources available within the University for faculty writing grants.
Dr. Stefanek spent 8 years as a Branch Chief with the NIH in an extramural division. In this role, he developed new initiatives and provided oversight to the grant management process. He also worked closely with principal investigators (PI) and the Center for Scientific Review, the group who coordinates the grant review process at the NIH. In addition, Dr. Stefanek was PI and co-investigator on a number of funded NIH grants prior to joining the NIH.
