INTERIORITY COMPLEX is a multi-disciplinary, semester-long collaboration project culminating in an exhibition. The project involved graduate students in the first year of the Master of Fine Art in Visual Art degree program at Herron.
The interior psychological space of an object or place is often overlooked. Our collaborative project is a conceptual look at vessels, literal or figurative and their meanings both abstract and concrete. Through investigating metaphor we concluded anything could carry meaning and therefore be a vessel.
The project has taken shape through many group discussions, studio visits and cooperative work. We are employing an open use of metaphor by implying things about real or imagined vessels. The metaphor itself is open ended and has grown to include many representations including urban life, movement, communication, collection, change and growth, loss and accrual.
