          About This Event

          Summary

          Perry J. Pickhardt, M.D., visiting professor at the IU School of Medicine and professor of radiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, will present two lectures Friday, March 29, in Fesler Hall-Hurty Hall B.

          Dr. Pickhardt will present “CT Colonography for Population Screening” from 7 to 7:45 a.m. and “CT Colonography: Interpretation and Challenging Cases” from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

          A specialist in abdominal imaging, Dr. Pickhardt is an acknowledged authority on colorectal cancer and screening, particularly with CT colonography (virtual colonoscopy). Prior to his position at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Pickhardt served in the U.S. Navy, spending one year as the Head of Radiology, U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and three years as the head of GI-GU Imaging at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He also served as an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda. 

          Among other projects at National Naval Medical Center, Dr. Pickhardt organized a large multi-center screening trial evaluating CT colonography and served as the PI.  His Cancer imaging and CT continue to be prime research interests.  He has edited several textbooks, including a large reference work on CT colonography.  To date, his work has resulted in over 250 scientific publications, book chapters, and textbooks. Dr. Pickhardt was selected by the Society of Abdominal Radiology as the 2012-2013 Igor Laufer Visiting Professor, which provides support for his visiting professorship at the IU School of Medicine. 

          Dr. Pickhardt holds medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, which he attended on the U.S. Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program. From 1995-1999, he was a resident in diagnostic radiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University, where he co-edited a textbook on body CT and published a number of scientific papers. He also holds a bachelors’ in science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
