Commercial Artisan is the graphic design studio of brothers James Sholly ’88, and Jon Sholly ’03. The studio has designed award-winning work for local not-for-profit concerns and Fortune 500 corporations — it operates under the simple conceit that there is no excuse for bad design.
The brothers’ work has been recognized in major forums and publications that include Design Observer, Print, Eye, Emigré and Communication Arts. They have been honored by AIGA, F.P.O. and the American Center for Design in their respective competitions. The Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum has featured the Sholly’s work in their major graphic design surveys Mixing Messages (1996) and Graphic Design: Now In Production (2011).
ink / paper / staples / glue is the first time the studio’s work has been collected in one venue and offers a look at highlights from over twenty years of graphic design.
